Dublin Bus

Connecting journeys across the network

The bus network is the premier public transport mode in and around the Irish capital. The River Liffey, with a single crossing point carrying 70% of the North-South connections, presents barriers to understanding how journeys can easily connect across the network. Operator Dublin Bus commissioned us and Dublin consultancy Image Now to develop clearer route information, with the aim of improving access and encouraging the visitor economy.

Bus stops and destinations were confusing and obscured by the weight of traffic. To alter perceptions, we developed a network diagram showing a city centre ‘terminus’ area, divided into six zones. Stops in the zones are centrally mapped, with route diagrams and timetables at each stop. The new network diagram, with associated internet, print and telephone information, cohesively pulls all these communication elements together.

The system has been designed to enable the operator to extend the scheme and maintain accurate, up-to-date passenger network information at all times.
